The Feelings Explorer is a free, interactive tool that helps young autistic children practice naming and handling emotions. It has three short activities:

Feeling Faces: match a feeling to the picture that fits it.
Story Time: short picture stories about Bunny working through a feeling, read aloud.
Calm Corner: breathe along with a growing and shrinking bubble, and hear a gentle calming thought.

It works on phones, tablets, and computers. Sound can be turned off with one tap. Scroll down to start.

Understanding and expressing emotions can be one of the hardest parts of autism for many children. Many autistic children find it difficult to read facial expressions, interpret social cues, and put their own feelings into words. Traditional emotion-learning methods don’t always account for sensory and processing differences.

The Feelings Explorer offers a calm, predictable, sensory-friendly way to practice. It’s built for children ages 3–8 and combines simple pictures, read-aloud audio, and short activities your child can do at their own pace, with you alongside.

The Feelings Explorer is a practice tool, not therapy. If your child has a hard time with emotions, talk with their doctor, teacher, or therapist about extra support.

Dror Arbel

I'm Dror Arbel, Saar's parent and the founder of 101Autism.com. Saar is an autistic teenager who loves football, cycling and music, plays the piano and paints. Loud sounds can overwhelm him and sudden changes unsettle him, so much of what I write about comes from real life at home and at school. I started 101Autism to share our family's journey and to turn what we have learned about testing, school and daily life into clear, practical guides. I am a parent, not a clinician: I link to research and official sources, and nothing on this site replaces advice from a qualified professional.
