Is Embrace Autism Legit? What Its Tests Are and How Reliable They Are (2026)
Short answer: Embrace Autism is a small, autistic-led Canadian organization that hosts dozens of free online autism questionnaires (AQ, RAADS-R, CAT-Q, RBQ-2A, Aspie Quiz and more) and sells paid assessments for adults (18+). The free tests are research-based self-report screeners, not a diagnosis. A high score is a reason to look into an assessment, not proof of autism, and a low score does not rule it out.

What Is Embrace Autism?
Embrace Autism (embrace-autism.com) describes itself as “a small autistic-led organization created to support autistic adults.” Its team includes Dr. Natalie Engelbrecht, a Canadian clinician who is autistic herself, and Eva Silvertant, who designed the site. The site is best known for two things: a large library of free, self-scored autism and related questionnaires, and long articles explaining each test and the research behind it.
People often say “the Embrace Autism test” as if it were one test. It is not. It is a website that hosts many established questionnaires (most were developed by university researchers, not by Embrace Autism) plus a few of its own, such as the Autistic Traits Profile Questionnaire (ATPQ).
The Free Tests on Embrace Autism
As of October 2026, the tests page groups the questionnaires like this. The tests are free, can be done at your own pace, and are designed for adults (the exception is the EDA-8, a parent questionnaire for ages 5 to 17).
| Group | Tests | What they look at |
|---|---|---|
| Core autism tests | AQ, RAADS-R, ATPQ, CAT-Q, SQ-R, RBQ-2A, RMET, Aspie Quiz | Autistic traits, camouflaging, systemizing, repetitive behaviors, reading emotions in faces |
| Short screenings | AQ-10, ABO, AIS-12, ASRS-5 | Quick checks before longer tests |
| Empathy | EQ, TEQ | Self-reported empathy |
| Alexithymia | TAS, PAQ, OAQ-G2 | Difficulty identifying and describing emotions |
| Burnout | ABM, ABO, CBI | Autistic burnout and general burnout |
| ADHD | ASRS v1.1, ASRS-5, ADTPQ | ADHD traits (useful for AuDHD questions) |
| PDA | EDA-QA, EDA-8 | Pathological / extreme demand avoidance traits |
| Executive skills and other | ESQ, ESQ-R, Big 5, VIA-IS, CRT | Executive functioning, personality, strengths |
Which Embrace Autism Test Should You Take?
- Start with the AQ or AQ-10. The Autism-Spectrum Quotient (Baron-Cohen et al., 2001) is the most widely used adult self-report measure. You can also take our AQ-50 quiz.
- Add the RAADS-R if you want a broader picture that includes childhood traits. See how accurate the RAADS-R really is.
- Take the CAT-Q if you suspect you mask a lot (common in women and late-diagnosed adults). See our CAT-Q guide.
- Use the RMET, EQ, TAS and RBQ-2A as extra context, not as stand-alone answers.
- The Aspie Quiz is fun for many people, but Embrace Autism itself notes it is less validated than the other tests.
Are the Embrace Autism Tests Accurate?
The questionnaires themselves have published research behind them, but they were validated as screening tools, usually by comparing people who already had a diagnosis with people who did not. That is different from how well they work for someone who is unsure and takes them online:
- In a study of adults referred for a clinical assessment, the AQ missed many people who were later diagnosed and flagged many who were not (Ashwood et al., 2016).
- The RAADS-R separated groups very well in its original study (Ritvo et al., 2011), but later clinical studies found many false positives, especially in people with anxiety, ADHD, trauma or depression.
- Self-report tests depend on self-insight. Alexithymia, masking, and the wish for a particular answer can all push scores up or down.
- Scores from different tests often disagree. That is normal, and it is one reason a clinician looks at history, observation and interviews together.
Bottom line: Embrace Autism is one of the better places to take these tests, because each test comes with its source and an explanation of its scoring. But no online questionnaire, on any site, can diagnose autism.
Paid Screening and Formal Assessment (Adults Only)
Embrace Autism also offers paid services for adults 18 and over, available internationally. According to its website in October 2026:
| Service | Price (CAD) | What you get | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Autism screening assessment | CA$625 | Review of your questionnaires by autistic and AuDHD psychologists, and a professional opinion (consistent / partially consistent / another explanation). Not a formal diagnosis. | About 4 to 6 weeks |
| Formal autism assessment | CA$1,895 | Assessment against DSM-5-TR criteria by an autistic psychologist or licensed clinician, screening for co-occurring conditions, detailed report and documentation for accommodations | About 2 to 3 months |
Prices and the process change, so check the Embrace Autism website before you book. Before paying for any private online assessment, ask whether your employer, school, insurer or government agency will accept a report from a clinician licensed in another country or province. For children, Embrace Autism does not offer assessments; start with your pediatrician or school instead, and see our guide to the ADOS-2 assessment.
What To Do With Your Results
- Save your scores and write down examples from daily life and childhood. These help far more in an assessment than the numbers alone.
- If your scores are high and the traits cause real difficulty, ask your doctor for a referral to a clinician who assesses autistic adults.
- If your scores are low but you still relate strongly to autistic experiences, that is worth exploring too, especially if you mask.
- Compare with other tools: our IDRlabs autism test guide explains why different online tests disagree.
- If you feel overwhelmed or unsafe, in the US you can call or text 988 at any time.
Embrace Autism Test FAQ
Is the Embrace Autism test free?
Yes. The questionnaires on embrace-autism.com/tests are free to take. The screening assessment (CA$625) and formal assessment (CA$1,895) are paid services.
Can Embrace Autism diagnose autism?
The free online tests cannot. Embrace Autism’s paid formal assessment, done by an autistic psychologist or licensed clinician against DSM-5-TR criteria, can lead to a diagnosis. The cheaper screening assessment gives a professional opinion, not a formal diagnosis.
Is Embrace Autism for children?
Its tests and assessments are designed for adults 18 and over. The one exception is the EDA-8, a parent questionnaire about demand avoidance for ages 5 to 17.
Which Embrace Autism test is most accurate?
None is accurate enough to diagnose on its own. The AQ and RAADS-R are the most studied, the CAT-Q adds information about masking, and the Aspie Quiz is the least validated.
Is Embrace Autism legit?
It is a real, autistic-led organization that cites the original research for each test. As with any private provider, check whether a report from them will be accepted where you need it before you pay.
