Happy Thanksgiving, Autism Heroes
Hello, dear friends,
As Thanksgiving approaches, I reflect on our journey – mine and my son Saar’s. Saar, now 23, has been my most outstanding teacher in life. His autism has opened my eyes to a world of unique perspectives, challenges, and triumphs.
This Thanksgiving is more than just a holiday for us; it’s a celebration of the little victories, the growth we’ve both experienced and the unspoken language of love and understanding we’ve developed over the years.
Saar’s journey with autism has been like a kaleidoscope, constantly shifting and presenting new patterns. Each phase brought challenges, from helping him navigate social situations to creating an autism-friendly haven at home where he feels safe and cherished.
I remember the early days of confusion and fear following his diagnosis. But as I look back now, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible journey we’ve been on. Saar’s unique view of the world, attention to detail, and ability to find joy in the simplest things have been a constant source of inspiration.
Our Thanksgiving celebration might look different from others. It’s tailored to accommodate Saar’s sensory needs and preferences. But the essence of the day remains the same – it’s about giving thanks for the love, the lessons, and the unbreakable bond we share.
This year, I’m particularly thankful for the moments of understanding and acceptance we’ve received from those around us. Each act of kindness, each effort to include Saar in the community, does not go unnoticed.
To other families walking a similar path, know you’re not alone. Our journeys might be unique, but they’re interwoven with shared experiences of resilience, love, and an unspoken understanding beyond words.
As we gather around our Thanksgiving table, I am reminded that it’s not just about the food or the festivities. It’s about celebrating each other, our journey, and the countless blessings, seen and unseen, that autism has brought into our lives.
