Weekly Meal Rotation Planner for Autism (Free, Printable)

For many autistic children, a predictable menu takes the stress out of mealtimes. A weekly meal rotation repeats a set of familiar meals on the same days, so your child knows what’s coming, and you stop solving the “what’s for dinner” puzzle every night. Rotating across different textures also keeps variety in the week without surprises on the plate.

🗓️ My Weekly Meal Rotation

Type your child’s familiar meals and pick a texture for each. Your plan saves on this device, and you can print it for the fridge.

How to Build Your Rotation

  1. List your child’s “safe” meals. Write down every meal they reliably eat, even if the list is short. Those are the building blocks.
  2. Assign one meal per day. Keep the same meal on the same day each week (Monday is always nuggets, say). Predictability is the point.
  3. Spread the textures. Use the balance bar above to avoid five soft meals in a row. Variety across the week can reduce sensory fatigue.
  4. Keep brands and preparation consistent. A different pasta shape or a new brand of nuggets can turn a safe food into a refused one.
  5. Show the plan. Print it or post it on the fridge with pictures, so your child can see what’s coming.

Introducing New Foods Without Pressure

Once the rotation feels routine, you can expand it slowly. Many feeding therapists use food chaining: offering a new food that is very close to a safe one (a different shape of the same pasta, then a similar pasta with a little sauce on the side). Put a small “try” portion next to the familiar meal, with no pressure to eat it. Seeing and smelling a food many times is progress, even before tasting.

If your child eats a very small number of foods, is losing weight, or gags or vomits often at meals, talk to your pediatrician about a referral to a feeding therapist (often an occupational therapist or speech-language pathologist).
